Mobile to desktop

awork is a project management tool with a significantly better experience on desktop. With 30–40% of traffic coming from mobile, excluding mobile users wasn't a viable long-term strategy. Users who started onboarding on mobile were frequently switching to desktop, creating friction in their first experience with the product.

problem

After completing mobile onboarding, users were shown a modal suggesting that the desktop experience was better. However, someone commuting or being away from their computer was in a very different context than someone sitting next to their laptop. In most of the cases, users forgot about awork altogether before truly giving it a chance.

I redesigned the post-onboarding modal to give users options over when they'd transition to desktop. Instead of a single "we'll email you" text, users could now choose between three options: receive the email immediately, in 4 hours, or the next day. This small but intentional change respected where users were in their day and kept awork top of mind at a moment that actually worked for them.

Goals

Increase the percentage of mobile-onboarded users who start a second session on desktop by 35%.
Increase desktop onboarding-to-subscription conversion rates from 4% to 5%

Results

🟢 Users which started a second session grew to 100%.
🟢 The onboarding to subscription ratio on desktop grew to 6.84%.

solution

If awork AI is introduced at moments of highest user intent and powered by pre-filled, context-aware prompts—users can engage instantly, reach value faster, and build a habit of returning to the feature organically. High-intent moments » Within a project: surface prompts to identify blockers, generate summaries, or assess project status. » Within time tracking: offer prompts such as Weekly Time Report or Missing Time Check to support quick, task-driven insights.
